This relief was available prior to April 1, 1997.  If you were placed in deportation proceedings prior to April 1, 1997 and/or if you are a NACARA applicant, you may still be eligible for suspension of deportation:

You may apply for permanent residence through suspension of deportation if:

  • You have been continuously physically present in the U.S. for at least seven years;

  • You are a person of good moral character;

  • If you were to be deported it would be an extreme hardship upon you, your spouse, children or parents who are United States citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents.
